EDP CLUBE RUNNERS
The project was launched in March 2024 by EDP, with coordination and implementation support from Social Innovation Sports, with the aim of democratising access to athletics for young people aged 8 to 16 from vulnerable communities. Part of EDP's Y.E.S. – Your Empower Society programme, the project already has three active clubs: two in Lisbon, in the neighbourhoods of Cova da Moura and Zambujal, and one in Porto, which brings together young people from the neighbourhoods of Falcão and Cerco.

THE PROBLEM
-
Limited access to free, guided sports activities, specifically athletics.
-
Physical inactivity and the absence of healthy routines compromise young people's well-being and balanced growth.
-
The lack of equal opportunities and inclusive spaces hinders personal and community development, increasing the risk of social exclusion.

THE ANSWER
Creation of local athletics clubs, which offer training twice a week in easily accessible neighbourhood spaces, free of charge and guided by specialised coaches. In addition to training, the clubs occasionally promote other activities, such as participation in races, training at high-performance centres, and participation in cultural events. These training sessions allow young people aged 8 to 16 to acquire physical activity habits, develop personal and social skills, and experience sport as a tool for inclusion, education, and citizenship.
